Vice-President

Board role. A non-profit director who has the position of vice-president. The Societies Act does not require non-profits to have a vice-president. The roles and responsibilities of a vice-president depend on the non-profit's bylaws. The model bylaws provide that the vice-president is responsible for carrying out the duties of the president if the president is unable to act.

Volunteer

Unpaid. Volunteers freely give their time and labour. Freely means performing duties without any express or implied promise of being paid with money, goods or services. Volunteers include board members of a non-profit.  Sometimes the term intern is used instead of volunteer. The term “intern” should only be used if the duties and role fit within its employment standards definition.
